Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst The launching of Strawberry, or ChatGPT o.1 is creating a healthy debate. For some, this new launching shows a LLM with potential to impact humanity already, beyond the normal LLMs, including the exhibition of early (we could say very early) signs of agency. So what does it mean for the future? AI Doomerists will say it leads to human catastrophe and those who see everything rosy will predict the exact opposite. In fact, what we can find now is flexibility. An AI will do what is ready to do, and only if any time reaches AGI or even ASI we may lose the power over it. Meanwhile we have LLMs hallucinating, biased (depending on the data and the prompting), so we recognise too that we also learn how to build better and fix the concerns about AI we as humans have. We shouldn’t trust 100 percent an AI as we cant trust 100 percent a human as we all may make mistakes. But as with other critical technologies, we can’t forbid it anymore because of concerns about dangers. Our history always have dealt with technologies which can be dangerous but we haver reached (at least usually) a balance where we minimise as much as possible the dangers and deal with the opportunities, challenges and good results. An example: we know many people will lose their actual jobs, as many job titles will disappear in the next future due to the wider use of AI. Does it mean we will just be “useless” as we get fired? No. Most people will have to adapt and find new positions in new jobs and job titles which will appear in a job market where AI is ubiquitous. So let’s think AI will make us all improve, and not the opposite. Let’s not expect miracles from AI, but let’s get prepared for the necessary changes which this is bringing in our society and values. Are you already working to adapt yourself to this new world?
